Welcome to the number one Susie Dent website! This site is a tribute to the beautiful and talented author, lexicographer and T.V. personality. And yes, I admit it - I do have a bit of a crush on her ... who wouldn’t?!

Susie Dent is best know for her appearances on the long running UK T.V. game show ‘Countdown’, where she has demonstrated her in depth knowledge of the English language as adjudicator and panelist on the show. Working alongside Des O’Connor and Carol Vorderman, Susie regularly beats the contestants in their quest to find words from a random selection of nine letters within the allocated 30 seconds. She is also an authority on the evolution of the English language, having written several books on the subject and often discussing it in T.V. interviews.

She strikes me as being sophisticated, demure, someone who prefers libraries to nightclubs, and is the kind of girl you would happily introduce to your parents if you were lucky enough to get the opportunity. All of that, and she’s gorgeous! In contrast to her friend and colleague Carol Vorderman, Susie Dent does not come across as being extravert - and it’s probably this lack of an over-inflated ego that adds to her appeal and makes her a refreshing change in the world of T.V. celebrities.

The fact that Susie Dent hasn’t exactly reached the pinnacle of celebrityhood, (even although she is still hugely popular amongst regular Countdown fans), makes finding out about her a difficult task. Added to that, she is a private person who likes to keep out of the limelight. So, if anyone has any info about her, or good quality photos you don’t see here, please feel free to e-mail me and I’ll add it to the site.

Can you find the nine letter word that Susie Dent made from these letters? (Susie is the one on the left!) Click here for the answer. Whilst Susie is allowed to use a dictionary, putting her at an advantage over the contestants, she is still restricted to the same 30 seconds everyone else has. Absolutely no computers are used, according to the program producers, although it has been rumoured that she has a couple of colleagues from the Oxford English Dictionary also rooting through their dictionaries trying to find the longest words they can, communicating with her via an earpiece. If anyone who has been to one of the shows and thinks they have the final word on this, please let me know! Perhaps the only real way of knowing how good Susie really is would be to have a special edition of Countdown, where Susie Dent is a contestant. Perhaps she could go up against Carol Vorderman - Carol would definitely have the edge on the numbers games, as she clearly has an exceptionally good head for numbers, although as there are more word rounds than numbers rounds, I’d expect Susie would win hands down.

If you would like to link to this site, and improve the chances of other Susie Dent fans finding it in the sea of internet baloney, then that would be hugely appreciated - just stick a link on your website to http://susiedent.awardspace.com and we’ll see if we can get into Google’s top ten!
